HO CHI MINH CITY – 23 hours of flights and a week and a half after leaving DC (including a friend-filled stop over at home in Tokyo), and we have arrived in the bustling heart of Vietnam.
Arriving at the surprisingly modern Than Son Nhat airport was a strange experience: largely empty on the inside, it was teeming with people waiting for the arrivals. It was so crowded and loud, it made me feel like a celebrity as we moved through the barricades.
The streets are filled with their famous moped chaos, but driving amongst them felt surprisingly orderly, especially compared with my experiences in Bangkok and Seoul (where I will be living next).
Our first morning in Vietnam will bring with it swimming, shopping and sightseeing…
